Where Knowledge Meets Responsibility

BIU Beyond: Impacting tomorrow, today

BIU’s commitment extends far beyond the classroom. Many marginalized and disadvantaged populations in Israel face significant barriers to essential services such as legal aid and medical care.

BIU addresses these critical needs through a network of student and faculty-led initiatives. These include legal clinics offering support for women, the elderly, and underserved communities, and medical programs that provide home visits to those in need.

Bar-Ilan University’s Community Psychology Clinic—the only university-affiliated mental health clinic in Israel—extends this impact even further by offering high-quality, low-cost psychological care to adults, children, and families. Graduate students and interns provide therapy, diagnostics, and group workshops under expert supervision, ensuring both community care and world-class clinical training.

BIU is committed to social impact and community engagement, guided by Jewish values and heritage. Tikkun Olam—the Jewish imperative to repair the world—calls upon us to care for our families, communities, and the most vulnerable individuals among us.

BIU takes the commitment of Tikkun Olam a step further by offering community services that not only address crises in the moment but also pave the way for a brighter future. In the process, students gain invaluable training, driven by a strong sense of purpose and belonging.

Your Generosity In Action

At Bar-Ilan University, innovation doesn’t stay in the lab—it reaches people where and when they need it most. Whether responding to trauma, restoring dignity, or advancing community health, BIU transforms knowledge into real-world impact. These stories show how BIU’s mission extends far beyond the classroom.

Where Hope Meets Vision

After the brutal attacks on communities near the Gaza Strip on October 7th, survivors fled without basic necessities, including eyeglasses. BIU’s School of Ophthalmology and Vision Science responded immediately, conducting free eye exams and fitting survivors with eyeglasses through its mobile clinics. This crucial care helped restore a sense of normalcy and dignity to those who had lost everything.Ìý

Where Today’s Crisis Meets Tomorrow’s Solution

The BIU Community Psychology Clinic answered calls for help beginning on October 8th, providing immediate trauma support while collecting valuable data and training the next generation of trauma specialists. This integrated approach—combining treatment, research, and education—ensures that BIU’s impact endures well beyond times of crisis.Ìý

Where Science Meets Social Impact

The Russell Berrie Galilee Diabetes SPHERE initiative has reduced disparities and morbidity rates in diabetes and obesity among some of Israel’s most vulnerable populations.
